Sections of the Huánuco-La Unión Section affected by water seepage and geological problems

The firm Ingenieros Civiles y Contratistas Generales S.A. (ICCGSA) reports that the sections located on kilometers 311-338 and 341-343, of the Huánuco – La Unión – Huallanca – Dv. Antamina road have been affected by heavy rains in the highlands of the Huánuco Region, which compounded existing geological problems in this road.

The Road Manager of ICCGSA, Elmer Cirilo, explained that the affected sections are part of the critical sectors of this road, where landslides of the upper slopes, major collapses, platform cave-ins, and seepage are frequent, and also occur due to natural conditions and the geography of the area.

These natural anomalies are compounded by human factors. “Farming in the High Andean area is not conducted with an appropriate irrigation system, for which reason the irrigation canals break often and flood the road, causing severe damages. Indiscriminate felling of trees lead to stripping these mountains and basins from their resistance, favoring flooding and landslides,” explained Elmer Cirilo.

Faced with these problems, ICCGSA wishes to inform that maintenance works on this road have not been abandoned and that it is working very hard to restore the affected sections. Front loaders, backhoe loaders, grader, vibratory rollers and dump trucks are in place at critical points to restore vehicle transit for carriers going to La Union from Huánuco and vice versa.
