ICCGSA present at the First North Road Infrastructure Conference 2014 (I Congreso de Infraestructura Vial Norte 2014)
The city of Trujillo was elected for the First North Road Infrastructure Conference 2014 organized by the specialized magazine Peru Vías. Engineer Manuel Saavedra Chang, Project Manager of ICCGSA, participated in this conference, held on April 4 and 5, in which various construction companies were also present.
At this event, which brought together political authorities, construction companies, and construction contractors and suppliers, the Project Manager of ICCGSA Manuel Saavedra Chang made a presentation on the causes of impairment of roads and solutions for good maintenance thereof in areas of the High Andes.
Engineer Saavedra Chang explained that the most common damages that cause road paving impairment are asphalt layer cracks and rutting or plastic deformation, and the detachment of components in the road, which are subjected to severe processes due to intense and increasingly heavy and frequent traffic, sudden temperature changes, which fluctuate daily from intense cold to warming by the sun. Severity of these changes is greater when the pavement structure is located in High Andean areas (over 3,000 meters above sea level).
To keep a road in good condition, says Saavedra Chang, it is necessary to research and assess solutions that go from using improved asphalt to including modifying agents that allow improving the road’s mechanical features, to defining alternative solutions to the traditional and best known.
