Consorcio Telecabinas Kuélap was awarded the tender to implement tourism project in Amazonas
The Peruvian Private Investment Promotion Agency (Proinversión) awarded the tender for implementation of the Kuélap Telecabin System Project to Consorcio Telecabinas Kuélap, consisting of the firms Ingenieros Civiles y Contratistas Generales S.A (ICCGSA), with 49 years of experience and a leader in engineering and construction, and the French firm POMA, with almost 80 years of experience as a world leader in cable transportation. Investment in this project has been 17.9 million dollars (plus VAT) and will allow access to the important Inca archeological site located in the Department of Amazonas.
The scope for this project, as indicated by the Proiversión Committee for Infrastructure, Social Public Utilities, Mining, Sewage, Irrigation and Agrarian Affairs (Pro Desarrollo), provides for covering an approximate length of 4,000 meters, and will be designed to receive 1,000 passengers per hour. This is a comfortable, rapid and modern means of transportation that will further the economic and social development of Chachapoyas and improve accessibility conditions to the Kuélap Fortress, so it can become one of the most visited tourist destinations in Peru. Consorcio de Cabinas Kuélap will hold the concession of this aerial cablecar for twenty (20) years.
The technology to be used for the Kuélap Telecabin System Project is tested worldwide and experiencing this type of transportation is expected to have a significant impact on growth of domestic and international tourist demand in the Northeastern Tourist Circuit of Peru, especially in Chachapoyas.
